Carillon Tours
Join carillonneur Oisin Dilger for a guided tour of the Centralia Carillon, a 160-foot tower in Carillon Park. The visit includes a brief introduction to the history of bell towers and carillon music, along with the story of this instrument, before the climbing to the bells.
Guests climb approximately 173 steps (no elevator) to tour the playing cabin and the open belfry above. You will see the baton keyboard and pedalboard, transmission system, and bells themselves—including the 11,000-pound Great Tom—while Dilger explains how the instrument is played.
The tour concludes with a short concert. It is suitable for adults and children 10 and older (children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult). Tours are by appointment year-round, weather permitting; wear comfortable shoes and note that visitors climb at their own risk. Contact the Centralia Carillon at 618-533-4381 to schedule.
