Site Selection
The Centralia Foundation
To secure a permanent home for the bell tower, project organizers targeted a prominent downtown parcel situated along Elm Street. The property, located at 114 North Elm Street, was selected to place the new monument at the civic center of the city.
Planners intentionally prioritized this location to ensure the tower would function as a vital central hub for the community. By choosing a site in the heart of downtown, they established a highly visible focal point designed to serve as a premier destination for local gatherings and events.
Acoustic distribution also played a key role in confirming the downtown site's selection. By placing the 160-foot structure directly in the city center, organizers guaranteed that the instrument's music would face minimal obstruction, allowing it to emanate outward and be heard widely across the community.
Beyond erecting the structural monument, securing the Elm Street property provided the space necessary to bring a welcoming park directly to the heart of Centralia. This prime location allowed organizers to surround the tower with a landscaped outdoor setting, deliberately creating an inviting "downtown living room" for public enjoyment and seasonal concerts.
